It is not very often that a basketball player scores 38 points while leading his team to almost a 30 point victory, and still manages to walk off the court as the game's biggest loser. Yet, Lebron James managed to do that Thursday night at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. You get the feeling that the guy who used to be "The Man" is now just a man looking in the rear view mirror. If Lebron could take a mulligan, there is no doubt that he would take a different approach to free agency.
Maybe he would realize that Cleveland is a great American sports city with some of the most passionate fans in the country. Although, Miami might be a sexier place to vacation, its fans are more concerned with their gucci loafers than the actual game that is being played. Let's face the facts, the Miami Dolphins are the biggest thing going on in Miami, and that's not saying much these days. Ultimately, LeBron has nobody to blame for the scorn of the Cleveland faithful but himself. He made the much anticipated, nationally televised "Decision" without giving Cavs ownership a modicum of respect, especially after it cut him a hefty paycheck for seven years.
The saddest thing about King James' legacy is that he was never dethroned. Instead, he decided to step off his pedestal. I could see if this story was going to have some fairytale ending like King Edward VIII abdicating his throne to marry Wallis Warfield Simpson; however, LeBron James didn't leave Cleveland for some woman, which any man can relate to. Rather, he left Cleveland to join hands with Dwayne Wade. Lebron's star power has dimmed quite a bit since leaving for South Beach, and and there is serious doubt about whether it will ever shine as bright as Dwayne Wade's in Miami.
